Summer Activities To Do Near McConachie

Since officially welcoming summer on June 20th, we are eager to make the most of the warm weather and sunshine in McConachie! Though this summer will be very different from other years, there are still many things you can do for fun, while staying safe. Continue reading below for some ideas for activities to do near McConachie this summer:

Summer Picnic in the Park: 

McConachie is home to many parks, natural areas and open spaces to perfectly accommodate outdoor gatherings and picnics! Stop by Sobeys – Hollick Kenyon for some fresh ingredients and refreshing beverages for the perfect picnic lunch. Grab a blanket, some sunscreen, bug spray, and you’ll be ready to enjoy! 

Go on a Bike Ride: 

It’s time now to get those pedals turning! McConachie offers many pathways that are perfect for family bike rides. If you are looking for a longer trail, Elk Island National Park is just a 30-minute drive from McConachie. This beautiful national park features a scenic road along the southern shores of Astotin Lake. See here to learn more about the park’s cycling routes and parking. 

Hit the Greens:

If you are not already an avid golfer, now is the perfect time to pick up the sport. Lucky for us, McConachie is nearby to many fabulous courses and driving ranges. Green Acres Driving Range is located behind the Canadian Tire in Manning Towne Center (access from 34th street) and is a great practice facility for golfers of all skill levels. The Raven Crest Golf & Country Club is one of the top golf clubs in Edmonton and is perfect for an experienced golfer. The course is situated on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River. It features over 6,700 yards of well-manicured greens including many trees, water hazards, bunkers, elevation changes and more. The Quarry Golf Course is also nestled along the North Saskatchewan River, and boasts 27 holes of championship golf. Public tee times can be booked seven days in advance by calling 780-477-8437. 

Get Your Hands Dirty: 

Did you know that scientists have discovered that gardening can improve your mood? Mycobacterium vaccae a bacteria found in soil has been shown to increase levels of serotonin. Furthermore, researchers have found that humans experience a release of dopamine when they harvest products from the garden. Those are just a few of the many reasons you should start gardening if you don’t do it already!
